Galvus 50mg Tablet (Vildagliptin) - Uses, Interactions and Side Effects

Description

Galvus 50 mg is an antidiabetic medicine used alone or in combination with other medicines to treat type 2 diabetes in adult patients. Patients are advised to follow a strict diet and exercise regimen along with this medicine for the best possible effect. This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with type 1 diabetes and diabetic ketoacidosis.

What is Galvus used for?

Galvus is used to treat type-2 diabetes mellitus. It can be used in the following ways:
on its own (monotherapy) in patients whose diabetes is not sufficiently controlled by diet and exercise and who cannot take metformin;
together with metformin, a thiazolidinedione or a sulphonylurea (dual therapy) when the patient’s diabetes is insufficiently controlled by this other medicine taken alone, but it is only used in combination with a sulphonylurea in patients who cannot take metformin;
together with a sulphonylurea and metformin (triple therapy) in patients whose diabetes is not sufficiently controlled by these medicines plus diet and exercise;
together with insulin (with or without metformin) in patients whose diabetes is not sufficiently controlled by diet and exercise plus a stable dose of insulin.

Dosage

Missed Dose
Galvus 50 mg Tablet missed dose as soon as you remember it. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed one.
Overdose
Seek emergency medical treatment or contact the doctor in case of an overdose.

Warnings for special population

Pregnancy - Galvus 50 mg Tab is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless absolutely necessary. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before taking this medicine. Your doctor may prescribe a safer alternative based on your clinical condition.
Breast-feeding - This medicine is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless absolutely necessary. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before taking this medicine. Your doctor may prescribe a safer alternative based on your clinical condition.

Storage

  • Keep your Galvus 50 mg Store in the original container until it is time to take it.
  • Store it in a cool dry place where the temperature stays below 30°C.
  • Do not store Galvus or any other medicine in the bathroom or near a sink.
  • Do not leave it in the car or on window sills.
